On-site interpretation

On-site interpretation means the interpreter and participants are together at a physical location. It can make shared visual context and room interaction easier, while requiring planning for travel, access, privacy, and timing.

Plan the room and arrival

Confirm the address, building access, department or room, expected duration, and a contact for logistics. Arrange seating so participants can speak directly to one another and the interpreter can hear and see what is needed. For sign language, confirm lighting, sight lines, space, and the participant’s preferred arrangement.

Travel time and expenses should be discussed in the proposed terms before commitment. Availability depends on location, language, qualifications, schedule, and the interpreter’s service area.

Choose based on the conversation

In-person presence can support visual communication and group interaction, but the format is not automatically required or appropriate for every assignment. Ask participants about access preferences and consider the subject, privacy, urgency, connection options, and the organization’s rules. For Minnesota Lingfaro requests, in-person work is one scheduled format considered alongside external video.

Let’s plan the conversation.
