Choosing an interpreting format
Lingfaro supports scheduled in-person or external video interpretation. Choose a format by considering what participants need to see and hear, the nature of the conversation, and the privacy and equipment available.
When to consider in-person
An interpreter in the room can support shared visual context, conversation among several people, and settings where the participants prefer direct presence. Consider room access, travel, timing, and the proposed terms.
For sign language, ask the person what arrangement works for them and plan clear sight lines, lighting, and enough space for visual communication.
When to consider video
External video may work when participants can join from separate locations and the connection is reliable. Check that everyone can hear clearly, see the interpreter, and participate without competing audio.
Have a backup plan if the video connection fails. Confirm that the setting and organization permit the format before the session.
Make the choice with participants
Ask the person who will use interpretation about their preference and access needs. Consider privacy, the number of speakers, visual materials, and how participants will request clarification.
The format alone does not establish that a session is appropriate. Confirm language, dialect, subject fit, qualifications, and exact terms before commitment.
Let’s plan the conversation.
